ball in Times Square

Wish you could be in Times Square watching the ball drop at midnight? Well, you can! Sort of. You can log onto:

 http://www.wi-fitv.com/index.php?page=livetv2&category=326&country=0&id=

and watch the ball drop online. You’ll have to furnish your own hats and noisemakers and sadly, Dick Clark is unavailable, but the upgrade of the ball is said to be spectacular!

I hope 2008 is a great year for all of us!

Happy New Year to everyone!

Merry Christmas!!!

santa and me

The other night, our power went off for no good reason–no storm or wind, nothing! We got the radio and put the batteries in after finding the rechargeable light and decided to listen to the station that was playing Christmas music. Then we began playing guess the singer. The only one I was unsure about was “Santa Baby” but I’m pretty sure it was Eartha Kitt. Imagine her singing:

Hey, I’ve been a good girl…..and all I want is a digital camera!  ;)

Oh, the picture. I talked a friend into going to have our pictures made with Santa for our boyfriends/husbands who were spending some quality time with Uncle Sam (basic training) at the time. Yeah, sorry to say Santa sorta creeped me out after I sat down! I think he was enjoying it a tad too much! heh

Have yourselves a Merry little Christmas and remember the troops in your Christmas blessing!

K9 Lex Goes Home

k9 Lex

Marine Cpl Dustin Lee had watched his mom work with rescue dogs while growing up so it was no surprise that he decided to work with K9 dogs when he joined the Marines.

He and his dog, Lex, searched for roadside bombs in Iraq. They were constantly together, even sleeping in the same sleeping bag sometimes. Nine months ago, Dustin was killed in a mortar attack in Fallujah and Lex was wounded. Whimpering from his pain he refused to leave Dustin’s body and had to be pulled away.

Dustin’s family decided to adopt Lex but the Marines said he had two more years of service and it took a NC congressman having a chat with the Marine Corp’s top general to finally give the OK to the family. It is the first time anyone other than a former handler has been allowed to adopt.

Lex still has shraphel lodged in his back but has been working as a police dog on a base in Albany, GA, where the Lee family picked him up this morning to take him home to MS.

And that’s the way it should be!

Night and Day

Posted in music on 6:33 am December 13th, 2007 by bama2

I heard what I think is a beautiful old song, Night and Day,  played by an orchestra without the lyrics. I knew some of the lyrics and looked it up just for my own curiosity! They are:

Like the beat beat beat of the tom-tom
When the jungle shadows fall
Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock
As it stands against the wall
Like the drip drip drip of the raindrops
When the summer shower is through
So a voice within me keeps repeating you, you, you

Night and day, you are the one
Only you beneath the moon or under the sun
Whether near to me, or far
Its no matter darling where you are
I think of you

Day and night, night and day, why is it so
That this longing for you follows wherever I go
In the roaring traffics boom
In the silence of my lonely room
I think of you

Day and night, night and day
Under the hide of me
Theres an oh such a hungry yearning burning inside of me
And this torment wont be through
Until you let me spend my life making love to you

Day and night, night and day

Written by Cole Porter, said to be inspired while floating down the Nile River in Egypt listening to Moroccan drums and Islamic chants! (Think I’ll overlook that!)

U2 has an updated version:

I’m not a Bono fan but I like the emotional punch he gives to it! It sometimes gives me chills when he first says night and day, but that’s just me! I’d like to hear Sting do it! That might make me swoon—-yeah, that’s right….I said swoon! Well that, or a slow dance with Tom Selleck! Lawdy Miz Scarlett, I feel the vapers comin’ on!

It’s the kind of song that makes you want to close your eyes and dance like the incredible Fred and Ginger!

Anyway you play it or sing it, it’s a beautiful song that I love.
