Did You Miss Me?

Posted in life on 3:02 pm July 26th, 2008 by bama2

Well, I’m screaming now but not for ice cream! For the past several days we haven’t been able to get on the internet because at&t was having a problem with the dial-up number we use! Talk about aggravation! Grrrr!

Actually, I don’t really need to be on the computer–it’s getting close to time to move and I have a ton of things to do! My foot is bothering me and I need to go see the doctor. I have a small rash on my calf and one of the anti-biotics made me throw up some expensive cherries!

It’s raining cats and dogs today so I most likely will not be able to get to the PO to mail some care packages! I have to disconnect my car battery and connect it whenever I use the car–not something I want to do in the rain!  Frustration level going up! I had to preform that little act in front of 2 guys one night–they were sitting in a car next to mine! I would’ve loved to have said penny for your thoughts, heh!

Yeah, it’s a laugh a minute around here lately! ;)

All-Star Game

Posted in life on 10:10 am July 17th, 2008 by bama2

It was fun to see all the retired baseball players at the All-Star game Tuesday night. Willie Mays seemed upset and it made me wonder if he has some sort of dementia.

Why was I interested? I iike baseball. I’m not nutty about it, but I like it.

In 1998, I won a trip to the All-Star game. Actually, we were suppose to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, then the game. We were arguing and got to the airport with the plane still attached to the airport, but we were downstairs and they wouldn’t hold it for us. So no Rock and Roll. We flew in  and there were all sorts of entertaining going on. From the players hitting balls in the stands, to the Budweiser horses in all their beauty!

We got to see Mark Mcguire and Cal Ripen play. We spent the night in Cleveland and flew to Pittsburgh the next day, rented a car and drove to Cooperstown to see the Baseball Hall of Fame.  Very interesting and fun!

We spent the night in a bed and breakfast and flew home the next day.

Open Sesame

Posted in life on 10:57 am July 7th, 2008 by bama2

Why is it that everything seems so hard to open? From a bag of snack foods that are at risk of exploding, to toys, CDs, DVDs, medicine, etc?

I finally remembered to tell the pharmacist I wanted flip-top bottles and what a relief! No more sending my BP over the edge while struggling with a child- proof bottle! Now if only they could make dvds you could open in less than 30 frustrating minutes! I can never get the plastic strip to come off in one piece! It always seems to come off in itty-bitty pieces that can drive me nuts! I am becoming educated, though–I keep a pair of scissors handy!

C’est La Vie!

Posted 1:31 pm June 30th, 2008 by bama2

c\'est la vieOkay. This is my tale of woe…or how I was a prisoner in my home …or what I didn’t do for my summer vacation! I can almost unclench my teeth, now! It started with the computer. After several minutes of trying to get on the internet, I picked up the phone and discovered there was no dial tone but there was a buzzing. Not good. I think it was after 5 so I couldn’t get in touch with the phone company.

The next day, I got ready to run some errands, among them going to see the doctor about my infected foot.  It was just a follow-up visit, but I also wanted to see if she could give me a different anti-biotic since what I was taking was making me queasy and I’d almost passed out one day.  So, I get in the car, put the key in and..nothing! This is great–the car is dead and I have no phone! No, I don’t have a cell phone.

Here’s where it gets tricky. I only have one neighbor and he isn’t home all the time–plus he’s sorta new and I’d never done more than wave hello. My other neighbors have moved ’cause the area where we live is going to be turned into a new subdivision this fall. I did manage to catch him at home and ask if I could use his cell phone. I called Express Lube and the guy wanted me to have my car towed to his shop instead of him coming to jump my car off which I thought was unnecessary. I called a couple of other people to see if I could find some cables and had no luck! My neighbor was leaving but said he’d see if the relative where he was going had some cables. So okay, maybe I’ll eventially be able to use the car and find out what’s wrong with the phone! The phone began ringing and I thought I was about to be in touch with the outside world! But no, when I answered it, it just kept right on ringing! My teeth were starting to hurt!

So far, I had no computer, no phone, no car, no medicine, no air-conditioner and I was running out of food! Maybe someone would find us before we starved! I had been eating cheese sandwiches but all the bread was gone! Then I remembered the food I send to soldiers in care packages–we had chicken vienna sausage (can’t send pork), Chef Boyardee mini ravioli and the tuna Lunch to go that even tho the soldiers said was good, I’d never tried.  I decided to try the tuna and even tho opening the box didn’t make the same sound as a pop top that the cats can hear no matter where they are, they were immediately interested in what I was doing! When they got the whiff of tuna I guess they assumed I was eating their food and I almost choked to death trying to tell them NO while eating!  The soldiers were right, it is good!

I considered walking several blocks down the road to the library but the road doesn’t have much shoulder to it and some of the people drive like idiots. We have wrecks frequently because people don’t pay attention to others who are trying to turn! I had tried esp–nothing, I didn’t have tom-toms or carrier pigeons, and my talks with the cats about taking a note for help were met with WHAT?

I went across the busy road to use another neighbor’s phone and called the phone company which connected me with the phone tree that I hate! The robot didn’t understand why I didn’t have a phone where I could be reached and after several trys, I asked to speak to a human! I was informed that there were several problems in this area and they were working on it and might have mine fixed in several days! I explained my situation and got an oh my goodness and she said she would note that on the repair list. I felt so special! My teeth were really hurting now!

My neighbor was outside when I came back and said his relative didn’t have cables. I said something about being out of food and he immediately offered to take me to the store. I ran thru the store but tried to linger in the froaen food section–it felt so good! Afterwards, we went over to the Express Lube to see if I could talk the guy into coming 5 mins away but he was still stuck on the towing thing, so we went back home.

Anout this time, a light bulb went off–since no one seemed to have the cables, go buy some! I borrowed my neighbor’s phone and called a taxi. He let me out at Wally World and after I had a fish sandwich, I went to the pharmacy to try to get my diabetic medicine and BP medicine that I had been out of all week! Sufferin’ succotash! You’d think I was trying to get dope! I know there are rules and regulations but for heavens sake–either I need them or I don’t! I finally got 2 or 3 pills of each with a hope that I’d soon have the car running! I went to the automotive dept and got the prized cables and went to the cell phone area and got a phone!! Then I went to get groceries–YAY GROCERIES!! By the time I called the taxi to pick me up, I’d been in WW 3 hrs and my foot was hurting but, at least, I had cables and a phone–life was looking up!

I called my cousin with my new phone–we had just talked before this special week started–and she said she’d be up the next day. Those were welcomed words!

The next day, we had someone look at the a/c and get it going, and we got the car started. We went back to the pharmacy and got a few more pills and a promise to get the dr to call in a new prescription so I wouldn’t have to worry about that anymore. We did run into a problem, though. We took my car to WW thinking I needed a new battery and the guy that was checking it said the battery was okay but my brake lights were staying on. Now this was a problem I’d had about a year ago and I had a new gizmo put under the dash and it worked for awhile then I had to drive one very hot day to Sears and a man there said he could fix it and taped a penny under the dash which had worked just fine until that day. My cousin had followed me to WW and my brake lights were not on but he had managed to dislodge the penny and now they’re on! We went down 280 to Goodyear and they said it was an electrical problem and gave me the name of a shop downtown that should be able to fix it. It was 5 and we were tired so we decided to go home and get something to eat before my cousin drove home.

We were outside and my neighbor came over and we told him what had happened to the car. He showed me how I could disconnect the battery so it wouldn’t be dead in the morning and so far, that’s what I’m doing when I use it! But it is alittle harder to do than it looked like it was with him doing it!

That was the week that was….a nightmare!

On the good side, we found our missing dvd remote!

A Tale of Woe

Polygamy

48 Hours had a program about multiple wives last night. Notice it’s always multiple wives, not husbands! Personally, I wouldn’t want it either way!

Two of the wives on the program were twin sisters–married to the same man with a third wife! They had bunches of kids and lived in a big house. They admitted they got jealeous at times. The husband didn’t want to be on camera because he was afraid it might hurt his business–it wasn’t mentioned what kind it was. They wore regular clothes and didn’t stand out like the ones we’ve seen on tv lately.

One little note, since their marriages aren’t legal, they are considered single mothers and qualify for welfare!

Visitors

Posted in life on 1:39 pm May 15th, 2008 by bama2

One night recently we had visitors that we had not seen in a long time. We used to see them a lot. They are pretty and very dear. I usually look for them when I arrive home but the night they came, I was busy getting groceries out of the car and missed them. When I got inside my son wanted to know if I had seen them and I said no! He said they were about 5 feet from my car and had bounced across the yard and across the road into the woods.  He said there were three adult deers. I’m going to miss them when I move!

Could someone please tell Ba-ba Wa-wa to zip it! And how is Star being mean when she only repeated what Ba-ba said in her book?! Holy cow–bring back shame

Ellen D. was trying on lingerie over her clothes the other day and it was creepy! I felt like sticking my finger in my ears and going lalalala! (shudder)

The blue bird is still pooping on my car! He fights with himself in the mirror. I parked next to a car with the same thing and thought they have a blue bird, too!

Babies

Posted in life on 11:38 am May 1st, 2008 by bama2

Have you heard about the babies in India being thrown 50 feet off a building for GOOD LUCK?! They are caught in a sheet and the claim is that there has never been an “accident”. I sure hope not!

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,353657,00.html

If you don’t read Blackfive, you missed the story about the newborn baby boy that was left at the gate of one of the American bases in a zip up bag recently.  He was a cute baby with a head full of hair! An Iraqi woman plans to adopt him.  Caused quite a bit of excitement after some soldiers watched a woman get out of a car and place the bag by the gate and drive off–they thought they might have a bomb!

Adoption isn’t looked upon as a good thing and there are so many orphans there presently. Some women put pillows under their clothes and go to the doctor’s office before they claim to have given birth!

There was a story about three sisters whose parents were killed in front of them and who are now in an orphanage. The older one took over and tried to take care of her sisters but when she reached a certain age, she had to go to another orphanage. Now at about 14, she has had 3 wedding proposals! She said she wanted to go to school and be an engineer like her father. I doubt she will have any say over her future.

William “Spanky” Gibson

Posted in life, military on 2:34 pm April 11th, 2008 by bama2

Marine Gunnery Sgt William “Spanky” Gison, 37, has redeployed to Iraq. Not unusual these days but the difference is he went back without one of his legs.  He was on a foot patrol in May, 2006, when a sniper’s bullet hit his left knee, destroying it.  He tried to get up but the bullet also severed a major nerve and his femoral artery.

Back at home, his leg wouldn’t heal and he begged to have it cut off so he could get out of the hospital.

He learned to ski and run and trained for triathalons. At the triathalon from Alcatrez a Marine General asked him if there was anything he could do for him and he said he wanted to go back to Iraq.

He’s only one of a very small group but they are very much admired!
